I agree with you about not using flash for baby photography. Apart from being a little bit too harsh, I worry that the intensity of a strong flash could actually be harmful to the eyes if fired from too close.

The amazing thing about taking pictures of babies is that in a few years time they will be taking pictures of you!

I would add also that you are working to their timetable. When herself was young a photographer came to the house to get pics, he was very late and as it was a christening gown shot, we held off giving her her bottle in case of those kinds of accidents.

By the time he arrived she wasn’t having any of anything. So the pictures show her just about to pull funny faces before giving out yards. She didn;t really look like herself in the final results and I was never happy with them.

So my tip is basically don’t think the baby will work around you, it won’t happen
