Hi Ian,

I'm further north than Charlesland (don't want to be giving my exact location away :D). I think Charlesland is a bit mixed...some people seem to be able to get broadband and others not. The most likely ISPs would Eircom (grr), Irish Broadband (who I'm with and have had great service from) and Digiweb.

A good source of info on all things Charlesland is http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=625

Good luck!

That's for sure, if I were made of softer stuff they would've got me back in Feb when all this started. It's a pity that I had to deal with rude and unhelpful people in Eircom before I got a pleasant one that understood and did something about it!! Best of luck to all those out there who challenge...it does pay off in the end!!! Think the trick is always to keep your cool! The monopoly they're running is so unfair, we can only fight it by words and not actions, like getting another company to connect us up!

Great news Caroline, I was going to say to keep at them because I'd heard about them doing this and the trick is to keep challenging them on it. They must make a fortune out of people who don't realise that the reconnection ought to be free and so go ahead and pay it.

I totally agree, if only I lived in an area where I don't have to rely on a landline. Broadband is not available from anyone, even Eircom, where I live, but they did supply me with a phoneline at a ridiculous cost. Considering I saw a telephone line coming from the house to the road and there was a phone in it, I thought I might just have to pay a reconnection charge (which was free at the time), but they sent me a bill with the full connection whack (129 euro). We're only going to be in the house for a year, then I have to pay another connection fee to get our new house connected!! I phoned to complain, and got no joy. 4 phone calls later, I'm still waiting for someone to acknowledge that if they were planning on charging me that much they should have let me know before connecting the line - and although "they understand" where I'm coming from, the charge still stands!!! How the hell am I supposed to know that 129 euro "line work" also includes having to send an engineer out to plug a cable into the exchange down the road... Please please please let another company come and save us from the absolute disaster that is Eircom!!

Well done to you for scoring the broadband. As we told you when we finally cut the cord from Eircom, "it's beautiful once you're out here." Talk soon. (Saw you were posted on kick.ie. Moving on up are we?)
