Yes, as mentioned on Flickr, it’s a great lens for portraits. Ideal distance from the subject to avoid facial distortions and the extra aperture gives you good light to work with and a nice tight depth of field not always enjoyed on portraits by digital SLRs. The dandelion shot shows this up quite well – especially considering you were likely taking this from maybe up to 3 metres away. I’m sure the optics are much sharper too being a fixed focal length lens. A very good lens choice – Eve will only thank you for it when she is older!

Those colours are amazingly sharp; just shows what a prime lens can do. I love the sharpness on the second one especially. I too have just bought a 1.8 lens (a 50mm) and I’m really looking forward to using it as I’ve only ever used cheap zoom lenses in the past.
